Junior has always been a basically thoughtful, sweet boy, but since learning to write and sound out words phonetically on his own, there have been no stopping the love notes I get around here. I can't get enough of them. Junior has become less demonstrative or vocal in the last year or so, and I really treasure each little love note (and gift) he leaves for me to find. These are just a few...
He made these bracelets out of pipe cleaners for me and was kind of bugged that I don't own a jewelry box to put them into. I told him I would wear them to church on Sunday.
Non-phonetically spelled, this note is a bit of a backhanded compliment. It says "I love you how madder you are" i.e. I love you even when you are mad. We have had to have a lot of talks about how I still love them the same even when I have to get mad at them for something. There have been a lot of breakdowns and "why are you being so mean, mom's" lately at the slightest amount of discipline. I don't think my poor boys are quite sure of either of their parents right now. But it is nice to know he loves me back even when I am mad at him :-) you would never know it by the things he actually says on those occasions!
Unfortunately, he has also learned to wield his pen for bad as well as is evidenced by this note I caught him trying to tape to Bubba's back the other morning after they got into a fight. It says "Loser, I don't like you."
Maybe what Bubba can't read won't hurt him? And I don't think you are ever too young to learn the fine art of writing censorship, Junior...

Love notes from our kids are pretty sweet. I got a kick out of hate note! Last week Kevin and Andrew were fighting (nothing unusual), as they were slinging insults back and forth Kevin came up with a pretty unique one... "I wish you were never created in the plan of salvation Andrew!" Pretty harsh. I'm still laughing at that one though.
ReplyDeleteHe is the funniest little monkey man in the land! I can't wait to see all of you in just a couple of weeks.
ReplyDeleteAwwww. I wish my kiddos would write me love notes (or any notes, really). That Sam is so smart and expressive. I'm predicting he's going to be an artist or filmaker or something cool and creative!
ReplyDeleteI'll just have to settle for Birdy picking odd moments to say "I love you!" :) Until she can write, that is.
That is so sweet Cyndi. Zehn will leave me treasure hunt notes around the house with arrows always leading me to something beautiful he has drawn and written (usually including a rainbow, which I have had mixed feelings about over the years)
ReplyDeleteNothing can put a bandaid on our heart like our children.... God bless you and your kids.
I love those kind of notes. Chandler is my note writer and I treasure every one!
ReplyDeletePLEASE keep that loser one. That is awesome.
